Joseph was one of a stout field of over 50 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series entries registered for the event. Qualifying eighth overall in his group on Thursday, Joiner went on to finish second in the heat race after nearly stealing the lead on the final lap.
Earning the ninth starting position on the grid for the $5,000-to-win A-Main, Joseph wrapped up a solid start to the weekend with a 13th-place finish in the 25-lapper.
Returning on Friday night for another preliminary program, Joseph missed the transfer into the night’s A-Main but just one spot. After winning his B-Main later in the night, Joiner locked into the 19th starting position on the feature grid.
Joiner fell back to as far as 22nd at one time after nearly being caught up in a pile up early in the 25-lap affair. When the checkered flag waved, Joseph had matched his performance from the previous night, crossing the finish line in 13th.
The winner’s purse increased to $15,000 for Saturday’s Clash at the Mag finale. With points from Thursday and Friday’s preliminary events determining the line-ups, Joseph was locked into the 12th spot on the A-Main starting grid.
Battling an ill-handling race car in the 100-lap feature, Joiner made the decision to retire early from the event to save his equipment.
Although it wasn’t the end result the team had hoped for, they were pleased with their accomplishments throughout the weekend. “It certainly wasn’t the result we wanted, but we’re proud of what we accomplished this weekend with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at Magnolia Motor Speedway! Thanks so much to everyone who stopped by to say hey at the track and to all of HTF Nation for the overwhelming amount of support. It was a weekend we‘ll never forget.”
