NEW RICHMOND, Wis. – When the $50,000-to-win USA Nationals A-Main gets rolling Saturday night, Devin Moran will be in prime position to pick up his second major-event win in two weeks.
Moran of Dresden, Ohio, earned the pole starting spot for Saturday’s 100-lap World of Outlaws Late Model Series event at Cedar Lake Speedway by topping Jimmy Owens in Friday night’s USA Nationals Dash.
The 23-year-old Moran will be looking for his second major-event victory in two weeks after scoring a $30,000 win last week in Fairbury American Legion Speedway's Prairie Dirt Classic.
Eight drivers raced their way into Friday night's dash by earning passing points during the Cedar Lake's two sets of 12-lap heat races. Moran, who scored two runner-up finishes in heat races, started the dash alongside Owens. The pair battled side by side early in the eight-lap event before Moran pulled ahead to win by 0.873 seconds over Owens.
Brandon Sheppard, Brian Shirley, and Jonathan Davenport rounded out the top five.
Mike Marlar, Ricky Weiss, and Shannon Babb finished sixth through eighth respectively and will complete the first four rows of Saturday night’s main event.
Friday night’s heat race winners included: Jason Rauen, current series points leader, Chris Madden, Babb, Kyle Bronson, Brian Shirley, Dale McDowell, Jimmy Owens, Brandon Sheppard, Jimmy Mars and Tyler Erb. Despite winning heat races, Rauen, Madden, Bronson and McDowell will all have to come through one of the two B-mains, which will be 15-Laps each and taking the top three out of each. McDowell and Tyler Bruening start on the front row of the first B-main while 2014 series rookie of the year, Frank Heckenast Jr., and Jason Feger start on the front row of the second B-main.
