MILTON, Fla. (06/24/25) – Joseph Joiner capped an extensive Midwestern swing with a trip to victory lane in Saturday’s Grassy Smith Memorial at Cherokee Speedway. Piloting his Kubota Genuine Parts / Base Racing Fuel No. 10 Capital Race Cars Late Model, Joiner earned a $10,000 payday and his second Southern Thunder Super Dirt Series victory.
The win was his second of the season at the Gaffney, South Carolina oval and extended his lead in the Cherokee Chief Super Late Model Series standings to 16 points over Zack Mitchell.
“We come up here a couple times last year and we were a midpack car. Ever since we’ve been coming here this year, we’ve got a second and two wins, so this place has been good to us this year,” Joiner said. “I had a lot of fun driving this thing tonight. … Hopefully my wife’s still awake and the kids, I miss them man, I’ve been gone for over a month. We’re ready to go home, I’ll tell you that, I’m about to put that truck in the wind and haul ass.”
Joiner’s week began on Monday in Wisconsin with the DIRTcar Summer Nationals Week Two opener at Wilmot Raceway. After winning his heat race, he started on the front row for the feature and led the first 18 circuits before ultimately finishing third in the 30-lap main event.
He followed that up with an eighth-place run Tuesday at Davenport Speedway, while Wednesday’s event at Quincy Raceway was washed out. The Hunt the Front team rebounded Thursday at Lee County Speedway, where Joiner advanced from 11th-to-7th in the $5,000-to-win feature after a third-place finish in his heat.
The grueling 24-day road trip concluded Saturday at Cherokee Speedway with the Southern Thunder Super Dirt Series-sanctioned Grassy Smith Memorial. Locking into the feature with a runner-up finish in his heat, Joiner quickly worked his way forward in the main event, using the high side to track down early leader Chris Ferguson. He surged ahead on lap 14 and controlled the remaining distance in the 50-lap affair to secure his sixth overall win of the season.
Joiner crossed the finish line 0.490 seconds ahead of Ferguson, with Jordan Koehler completing the podium in third.

Up next, Joiner and the Hunt the Front team look to gain ground in the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series standings as the tour heads to Kentucky for a two-race weekend. Action begins Friday at Lake Cumberland Speedway, where the series shares the spotlight with the Northern Allstars Late Model Series. The weekend concludes Saturday with a $20,000-to-win co-sanctioned showdown at Florence Speedway.
